Subligar/Key Farming in Phomiuna Aqueducts
There is another one of these on Monday, January 16th. We start running for the Tavnazian Safehold at 8:30PM Eastern.
Cyclonus and I were online one night and some Clan folks 'claimed' researching the events on this web site was too complicated so I guess I will promote this Jan 9th and 16th Phomiuna Aqueducts Monday Event to the front page. The events start at 8:30PM Eastern and I will cancel at 9:10PM Eastern if enough folks have not appeared at the Aqueducts Entrance.
Phomiuna Aqueducts have taught us to keep our objectives simple so party members know what is up and so I will go over what it that we shall do these next two Mondays:
We are going to farm Subligars, Keys, and Tres Duendes (D-4, E-4, D5, E5 Map Two area for him). We will not be going to the Library/Storerooms for the Aqueduct Maps. We will not be fighting the Minotaur at J-2 (I do not know when the next Minotaur Run will be so do not ask). Do not bring up the question of maps - someone else will have to put together a map hunting party as it will not be me.
In your browser this URL
http://www.ffxi-atlas.com/nav/?act=show&id=phomiuna_aqueducts
has the option to hi-light the areas where NM monsters spawn (Show/Hide NM). We will be camping Tres Duendes for two Mondays, we will be farming Subligar for two Mondays, we will be farming Keys for two Mondays. Pretty simple =^_^=
Here is what you will NEED:
stacks of sneak oil
a stack of antidote
a stack or two of Holy Water is optional (it can be useful but folks drink Holy Water and still die from DOOM so I have my doubts on Holy Water's efficacy)
You may want to print these out, in advance, since Phomiuna Aqueducts maps are in short supply:
http://www.ffxi-atlas.com/nav/?act=show&id=phomiuna_aqueducts
The terminology used is Map One, Map Two, Map Three.
Map 3 is the storerooms/libraries, we are not going there unless we are missing a specific subligar and we suspect a Fomor with that job is in there. We will be fighting on Map Two.
Fomor Hate - we are going to assume everyone in the party has maximum Fomor Hate and so we are not going to sneak by Fomor. If you do not have maximum Fomor hate that is what is known as a "good job" in the auto-translate but the party leader is still going to assume your Hate is at the Max. We are going to attack every Fomor we encounter along the way (unless they are way across the room and not bothering us as we head to another location). We ARE going to try to keep the Taurus/Stego fights to a minimum!
The boss Minotaur is located at J-2 of Map Two and so we want to avoid that spot in order to avoid having the Alliance being drawn in.
Definition of "Enough Folks"
I want seven people minimum, I am actually looking for eight or more
I want to see Elemental Seal and Sleepga in the party or I will cancel at 9:10PM Eastern
I do not need a THF, just means we can't go far into the place until we get our first key drop (a lot of the Iron Doors are locked for some reason)
Things to mention so you have a heads up on what to expect:
o Stegs/Taurus can cast DOOM, which is a count-down death timer, Holy Water has maybe a 30% chance to erase the timer, some folks spam Holy Water once the death timer appears on their screen.
o Minotaur Boss can Draw-In the entire alliance so we avoid, avoid, avoid him
o Just about everything aggros on Sound (including fish and slimes and cute bats)
o Stegs/Taurus are near-sighted but they have True Sight so Hide-Sneak-Invisible does no good, we just run behind their backs (or you can fight them and use Holy Water and Antidotes)
o Do not drop down into a canal unless you have to in order to follow the leader; see that little one-way arrow on Map Two right in front of the Iron Door at G-8? It means folks coming up to G-8 from map point B cannot climb up out of the canal (there are no steps out of the canal). Your avatar does not know how to jump three feet up onto the stone floor.
At 8:30PM Eastern on the next two Mondays you need to head out making for the doors of the Aqueducts. If you cannot make it by 9PM and the Alliance goes in then we will take a vote inside on whether the Alliance should fight its way back to pick you up. Remember we are going into the Aqueducts with maximum Fomor Hate so we will move sloooooooowly.
If you have a map listing Fomor locations it is out of date. SE shuffled things in the Aqueducts towards the end of 2005.

Jan 16th run
Just wanted to comment that the run last night (Jan 16th) was a very successful run. In fact, I'd say it was the most successful we've had yet... in spite of the fact it was like pulling teeth to get people out there :-)
We got many drops. My memory may be hazy, but as near as I can recall, this is what we had:
All in all, a very very successful run.
That being said, I'd personally like to encourage Tamara to take off some time from leading up events. Last night only 5 people showed up on time, the remainder had to be roped in from elsewhere. The interest for these sub runs is moderately high, but not high enough to get people to the event on time yet. I'd suggest Tam give it until the new month at least before running one of these again, simply to allow people time to hear about how much success these have been and what they can get from them.
Plus, I really don't want to see Tam burn herself out. I know we've had several people burn themselves out by leading too many events too rapidly, and I don't want to see that happen again :-)

srry
I cannot make it anymore cause I have class on monday night and will not be home untill 10:30 cst. so if you all are still there maybe I can come try for my sam sub. If not good luck on the bats. :)
Event took place January 9th
So this Event took place, we got more Subligar Drops, we got the Dagger drop off this NM clump of Red Bats (and they are really Red too)
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/bestiary.html?fmob=3375
and we died some more. No key(s).
I am seriously considering cancelling the Event at 8:45PM Eastern in the future if I do not have 8 affirmatives by that time. So with this comment in mind - next attempt at the Aqueducts is January 16th, you begin to run for Tavnazian Safehold at 8:30PM Eastern.
Success
I personally thought it was a pretty good success. Really, our biggest problem was one person going AFK much of the night. Had we not had that, we actually would have started on time.
I also wanted to add that for the single Fomors and the parties of two, the seven we had was more than adequate. Now that I've figured out where these are for a wide variety of jobs, it really shouldn't be that rough to just stick to the singles and doubles :-)
Also, I really should write something up for legacy purposes on that bat. The bat is easily killable by 7 characters, the trouble is you have to be smart about it. His BLM pet has nasty spells but is amazingly weak, and the bats themselves have low accuracy and low attack at the start of the fight. Thus, it really is important to kill the BLM first, ignoring the bats. Once the BLM is down, it's just a matter of keeping the tank alive and chipping away at the bats (the bats start having some insane EVA boost and ACC down moves, but that's just about it).

And the reason the bats become so difficult...
Is because you killed their (its?) lover - the BLM.
Not really, just couldn't help myself. Plus with the nasty AoEs of the BLM it's not a theory anyone will be testing any time soon.
Heh
Actually, I wouldn't be at all surprised if you were right about the bats getting pissed after the BLM is dead.
But I still think we should try for the bats again. Now that we know what to expect, it's really not that rough. There still are the Vampire Claws and Niokiyotsuna (Katana) drops available. Plus, I'm sure there are other career RNGs that would prefer to have the dagger drop that I got.
I do think that if we go for the NM, we should just get the singles in the area (the MNK, for example). In fact, thus far that's the only MNK fomor I've found in the entire place since the mob retweaking in December.

Cyclonus's Idea
Do not forget about Cyclonus's Idea that if you do not require Sleepga for Parties of Fomor you can substitute a BRD for our BLM and hit the bats more often =^_^=
Indeed
Or if our WHM hadn't been destroyed due to a problematic plan of killing the bats first, then we would have had Erase for all those ACC down moves.
Really, I think we've learned enough we can easily take these again without as many problems.
Give us a BRD for Acc boost, and a WHM (living) for Erase and we'll be all the merrier.

Tres Duendes
I need to add that for the next two Mondays we are also going to try to fight this 3-bat NM fellow (comes with a BLM pet):
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/bestiary.html?fmob=3375
The above fellow's drop is a goal (not for me) so while the next two Mondays are allocated to him he may drag things out for Monday, after Monday, after Monday =^_^=
Work >
I won't get off work untill 9:00 PM EST, so I would get home around 9:30 PM EST.
Discussion on Maps
I am not doing an Aqueducts map run, nor did I come up with the below description
(this individual did ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/poster.html?user=536725)
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/areas.html?farea=150
o There are four storerooms, J-7, J-9, F-7, F-9, wherein four types of ??? appear.
o One type of ??? are to open secret doors in the storeroom you're currently in: there are two each for two secret doors on the shelves in each storeroom in J-9 and F-7.
o The second type of ??? is a hint to the elemental correlation between the torches and how to open the path to the ornate gates through the secret hall, this ??? only appears in the southwest corner of the J-9 room.
o The third type of ??? is a random hopping spawn on a ten minute timer. There are 4 total places it can pop, with two pops on the shelves (one in each corner) of the J-7 and F-9 storerooms. These move in a set pattern, alternating corners in the two storerooms every 20 minutes, if the ??? is up in J-7, it will not be in F-9, and vice-versa. When ten minutes from the last pop have elapsed, the ??? will depop and move to one of the corners of the other storeroom. After another 10 minutes passes, the ??? will move again to the corner it was *not* last in, back in the original storeroom. Every 40 minutes the ??? will make a full rotation back to its original position, having completed its pattern. The message when hitting one of these ???s is "There is nothing out of the ordinary here." Their purpose is as yet unknown.
o The fourth ??? gives the key item Map of the Aqueducts when clicked. It can be located in any of the four storerooms, in one of the corners but not on the shelves. After it has been clicked, the ??? depops and repops after a certain amount of time (30 minutes?) in another corner of one of the four storerooms, possibly in the same storeroom it was obtained in.
o Please note some of this information is simply educated guesswork and hearsay, corrections are welcome.
o Thus, a party of six could get all 6 of their maps in a couple of hours, if they had their keys farmed (one key for each person, to be safe) or a THF along to open the gates, since the two sections of the third map are reached through different locked gates.
