Welp, we had a pretty awesome weekend of Ballista. Thanks to all who participated. The final tally is:
- Windy versus Bastok (Jugner): Bastok (sigh)
- Windy versus Sandy (Pashhow): Windy
- Bastok versis Sandy (Meriphitaud): Bastok
In the Jugner match the LS-mates were on the same team, but we lost. Pashhow we were also on the same team and we won (that was a close one :-). Meriphitaud we were on opposing teams (Val wound up on Sandy) so we both won and lost :-)
Just wanted to say that this Ballista was incredibly fun. The new EXP-gain is great (you gain EXP based upon your performance in Ballista regardless of whether your team wins or loses). The petra shovel is great, and so are all the new items.
Also wanted to tell of some rather interesting jobs I never would have guessed would work so well in Ballista (in case any of you are debating about joining in the future :-)
- BST/NIN : Holy crap! These guys kick ass! Nothing like summoning a pet to fight for you. The best thing about your pet is that it is a great way to distract the enemy while your team mates run for the rook.
- RDM/(whm,blm,smn,nin) : Put a RDM on the same team as a SMN and the two become deadly. Val was a RDM and, during our last battle (where I was playing against him) he was teamed up with a SMN. As long as the two stayed together, they were unbeatable.
- BRD/NIN : Hah! Not much fighting but kick ass boosts! Just be sure to have your whole team gather together at the start for a few songs.
- DRG/NIN : Same thing as the BST, cool pet that does damage and can distract people.
- WHM/SMN : YES, DRIFTER AND DROOPY, WHM CAN PLAY BALLISTA! They need to stay back and not engage in the battle, but for support, casting various weakening spells (dia, banish, etc), and for invis'ing folks who just made a kill and need to sneak to the rook, they are very important.
- THF/NIN : Perhaps the most shockingly effective job I found was this. THF's big attack is SATA, but they can't get behind people easily in Ballista. However, if they sub /NIN, then they can Tonko (invisible) and sneak up behind people. If they strategically choose their prey (like a big Galka Monk who is healing and only has 1/3rd his life :-) they can kill them in one hit.
Welp, there you have it. I really need to write up something on Ballista soon, don't I? :-D
Agreed
We did have a blast, and I was very surprised how much fun the game really was, along with being rather lag-friendly. (if there is such a thing)
I figured out the strategy about half-way through the first game, while scoring a kill or two along the way. The 3rd match (I was cooking dinner during the 2nd match :\) was alot more active, and consisted of players from the previous matches. The scoring went back and forth for the most part, and became that much more competitive. Both teams were great sports during the entire match, with a few jabs being thrown back and forth. Literally and figuratively. ^_^
Mai did a great job of trying to organize the team, although his words were not heeded as well during the first match. I think most of the players were fairly new (myself included)and some didn't figure it out until late in the match.
One fun point: When we played against each other, Mai had one of his team mates cast INVIS on him so that he could slip past us. Mai found it humorous to sneak up behind me while I'm healing to unleash a fury of punches. My team was just a bit late to save me, but they did put an end to the vile Galkan monster known as Maior, reign to an end. :D
Some time later, I found myself in need of some MP so i pulled away behind the team and started healing. Again, Mai INVIS's his way around behind us.....but they should have cast DEO cuz I smelled the dirty Galkan closing in. (hehehe) Being prepared this time, I had help just around the corner who came to my aid as he started his barrage. Before he could escape back to his camp, I casted BIND on him and my mates were able to finish him off. Since I had helped in stopping him, I was awarded the Gate Breach Status which allows you to score your point. He shoots! He scores! Gooooooooooooooooooooooooal!!
^_^ I was owed a few points after being mowed down at the hands of the Iron Monk.
So yes, this would be a great event to get our LS involved in for some community play. Great way for some of the higher level players to party with the lower level guys. I'll be able to lend a hand in writing some guide lines as I plan to join in the Ballista matches more often.
Again, great game and tons of fun........and next time I 0wn you Mai. ;)
Not INVIS
Nobody needed to invis me, I was subbing NIN and had Tonko :-)
It's actually a very good strategy I basically stole from the THF/NIN that SATA'd me a few times.
